The Why

The most resounding stories, the ones that lodge themselves into our hearts and minds forever before we even realize it, begin with an awakening. Sometimes this awakening is brought in through successive achievements and sometimes by unwieldy and random circumstances.

Whatever the case, we can only derive meaning from a story after it happens, after we can see everything in the past tense.

With a single story, humans can cast various meanings on that story depending on their vision and the direction they want to go.

So that you may be empowered to interpret and utilize the events of your own life with reference only to the truth that resides within, I will relate my own experience of this power.

I've experienced awakening several times, each

instance manifesting as an undeniable burning

sensation in my heart—a phenomenon I call

The Call. This compelling force led me to pursue

music as my craft and inspired me to leave my

support network and familiar surroundings to study 2,000 miles from home.

After securing employment in music, The Call reignited within me, urging me to express myself more

authentically in my work, seek humane and generous treatment for my efforts, and remain true to my ideals.

Consequently, I left a full-time teaching job, a regional symphony position, and a part-time university role to

explore how I might integrate these aspects of myself.

In making these decisions, I abandoned the comfort of a steady paycheck, an established performance platform,

and a community where I was recognized as a colleague and expert in my field. With each commitment, I

faced intense fear about my financial future:

• What if I couldn't repay my student loans?

• What if my mother's "I told you so's" became reality?

• What if I couldn't secure another job?

• What if I accumulated insurmountable debt?

• What if I became trapped in a situation due to lack of funds?

• What if, by leaving these positions, I could never teach or perform again?

• What if I ended up alone?

These fears stemmed from the vast unknown I was confronting and the pervasive belief that artists struggle financially, making my investments seem irrational. The thought of failing and irreparably ruining my life was a persistent concern.

Despite these fears, I continued to answer The Call, saying "Yes" to my authentic desires. In doing so, I have achieved:

• A six-figure net worth and complete financial solvency.

• A $90K investment portfolio.

• A 13-year romantic partnership where we mutually support each other's artistic endeavors.

• A successful online business that has been running for five years.

• Opportunities to travel abroad.

• Time to rest deeply and heal significant inner wounds.

• Self-funded performance opportunities and art projects.

• A community that genuinely supports my art.

I've also invested heavily in my education and personal development, including:

• Over $70K to pay off student debt.

• $12K for California teacher credentialing.

• $15K on brand-new clarinets.

• $55K on one-on-one coaching in the first five years of my business.

• $5K on various business courses from online coaches.

Through these experiences, I've become known as a Pragmatic Dreamer—someone who blends visionary aspirations with practical strategies.
